The question of the fate of humanitarian knowledge has been standing since half a century ago of discussions between «physicists» and «lyricists». But the then disputes were imbued with romance and excitement, now it’s time for sober assessments.

“Either humanism will turn into archivism, the work of collecting and interpreting old texts,” writes the philosopher, culturologist and regular contributor to Psychologies Mikhail Epshtein, “or it will come to the forefront of the transformation of the world, since all the secrets and possibilities of techno- and socio-evolution are contained in man, in his brain and mind.» The possibility of this breakthrough to the forefront is considered by the author, analyzing the current state of affairs in culture, literary criticism, and philosophy. The text is deep and complex, but it is precisely this approach that is apparently necessary for solving or at least accurately setting the tasks that Mikhail Epshtein undertakes.
