It’s not even a curiosity. I would like to call this insanity. It all happened in Portland, Oregon. Dillon Reagan, 32, had worked for four years in a large chain store selling building materials, tools and other gizmos needed for repairs. His shift was coming to an end when he heard some screams from the street. I looked out into the parking lot and saw a rushing woman who was sobbing and screaming that someone had kidnapped her child. As it turned out, the criminal, some drunken thug, simply snatched the baby out of the woman’s hands and rushed away.
Dillon and a colleague called the police. And while the outfit was driving, they, on the advice of the 911 dispatcher, rushed after the kidnapper. The criminal was caught. The child was returned to the mother. Dillon returned to his workplace. Everything about everything took about ten minutes, no more. What can I say? Well done and a hero, he was not afraid to run after the kidnapper. But not everyone thought so.

The next day, Dillon came to work as usual. The boss called him to the carpet and gave the guy a real headwash: they say, he did the wrong thing. Reagan, according to the boss, should never have left his workplace. And he left and thereby violated the company’s safety rules.
“The only thing I thought about was the safety of the child,” Dillon defended. But excuses didn’t help. A month later, the man was fired for violating security policy. However, when this story became public, the store management changed its mind and canceled its decision. But Dillon is not at all sure if he wants to return to work in this store.
