Returning from motherhood: all the questions we ask ourselves

Will I get there?

Being a mother is a constant challenge but… we reassure ourselves: with love, we can lift mountains.

Will I be successful in giving the bath?

Usually, the nursery nurse showed us how to bathe your little one in the maternity ward. So no stress, everything will be fine!

When is he going to stop screaming in the bath?

Bad luck, baby hates the bath! It happens a lot, and usually it doesn’t last more than a month. We check that the bath is at the right temperature because babies often cry because they are cold. You can also soap it outside of the bath and then rinse it very quickly.

Can I give her a bath every other day?

No problem, especially if Baby isn’t really enjoying this moment.

Why is he sleeping so much?

A newborn baby sleeps a lot, on average 16 hours a day for the first few weeks. We take the opportunity to rest!

Do I have to wake him up to eat?

In theory no. Baby will wake up on his own when he is hungry.

Fixed schedule or on demand?

The first few weeks, it is recommended to feed your child whenever he asks for it. Gradually, the baby will begin to claim on his own at more regular times.

Should the baby be changed before or after eating?

Some say before, because then the child will be more comfortable to breastfeed. But sometimes it is difficult to keep an impatient baby waiting. It’s up to us to see!

When is he going to sleep?

The question! Most children will adjust at night between 3 and 6 months, but some continue to wake up at night for up to a year. Courage!

If he falls asleep without burping, is it really serious?

During the first few weeks, the baby swallows a lot of air when he eats. And that can bother him. To relieve it, it is advisable to burp it after the meal. But no need to bother, some babies do not need to burp, especially those who are breastfed.

Regurgitation, is it normal?

Spitting up some milk after a bottle or breastfeed is common and quite normal. This phenomenon is due to the immaturity of the baby’s digestive system. The small valve at the bottom of the esophagus is not yet working well. On the other hand, if the rejections are important, and the baby seems to be suffering from it, it may be a matter of gastroesophageal reflux. Better to consult.

From what age can I use the deckchair? What about the play mat?

The recliner can be used from birth in a lying position and up to 7 or 8 months (when your baby is sitting). The playpen can have a use in the awakening of your child from 3 or 4 months.

Do I really have to go and have my baby weighed at the PMI?

The first month, it is advisable to go and weigh baby regularly at the PMI, especially if he is breastfed.

Am I a bad mother if I give her a pacifier?

But no ! Some babies have a very strong need for sucking and only the pacifier can calm them.

When will I stop bleeding?

Bleeding (lochia) after childbirth sometimes lasts up to 1 month. Patience.

And my stomach, will it ever regain a more human form?

“My belly is distended, still swollen, except that there is nothing left in it!” It’s normal, we have just given birth! The uterus must be allowed time to regain its initial size (within 4 weeks). We will lose this belly gradually, in a natural way.
