האָלידייַס: אונדזער עצות פֿאַר גרינג אַרומפאָרן מיט קינדער

Before departure, two-three precautions are essential.

A successful trip!

First, leave your stress at home: a good part of the comfort of the journey will be gained, of course, since the more calm and organized you are, the more your “mini-me” will be reassured. Then, whatever your mode of transport, it is essential to keep a diaper bag close at hand with all the essentials: one, or even two changes with wipes, one or two complete spare clothes, and a jacket. in case of cool air conditioning. And at least one disposable changing mat protector, to avoid germs from doubtful places, disposable bibs …

In the car, the essential precautions

From birth to 10 years old, children must be installed in a car seat adapted to their morphology. It is the law, therefore compulsory, and the only way to ensure their safety in the event of an impact.

  • For babies up to 13 kg, it is a rear-facing shell seat, placed in the rear or in the front, with the airbag deactivated.
  • אַרויף צו קסנומקס יאָרן, he travels in a rear facing car seat. Some models now allow you to be “rearward facing” for up to 4 years. The harness must be tightened, because contrary to our feeling as a parent, it is preferable for its safety that the straps are as tight as possible.
  • קסנומקס צו קסנומקס יאָרן, we use a booster (with backrest) the purpose of which is to pass the seat belt of the car at the base of the shoulders at the level of the collarbones, and not on the neck (risk of cuts in the event of an impact).

Air conditioning side, be careful. It is pleasant in a heatwave and makes the journey much easier for the driver and passengers. But the little ones can get cold. Remember to cover them accordingly and not to adjust the air conditioning too far from the outside temperature. If possible, avoid driving at night: driver fatigue and poor visibility are sources of accidents. And in the event of a breakdown, managing the event is much more complicated at night …

Plan frequent stops, to change the air in the passenger compartment, get the children to move around and boost the driver’s vigilance. Attach sun visors to the rear windows. In the absence of air conditioning, in high heat, avoid opening the entire window so as not to allow insects or drafts to enter. On the luggage side, do not place any object on the rear shelf, it would turn into a dangerous projectile if braked.

On the train, a comfortable trip!

The train is ideal with children! He will be able to stretch his legs in the corridor, and if your train has a child area, you will find an activity area where he can play for a while. do not forget baby sunglasses in the changing bag, because if you go down to the South by train, in the morning you will have the striking rays and a luminosity which will annoy your little one installed near the window. Do not skip the little wool, essential with air conditioning. Take uno one bottled water (we do not pass germs, even with the family!), the air can be dry. As in an airplane, you must plan to make the child swallow when the TGV goes at its maximum speed or in a tunnel: the pressure on the ears can be very painful. A small bottle, a latch, or a candy (not before 4 years old because of the risk of taking a wrong turn), but also געוועבן to relieve pressure by blowing.

In terms of luggage, we necessarily take less things than in the car. Plan a car seat to get to the station and then from the arrival station to the destination. Either you rent one (rental sites are multiplying), or you check that your host has one.

By boat, life jacket and seafaring compulsory!

Boat trips are rarely relaxing with little ones. We hesitate to tie up a child (with a chest harness), but it is nevertheless the safety solution when we go on a sailboat cruise. And of course, compulsory vest, even for a small crossing in a fishing boat: it is the only effective protection in the event of a fall in the water, even if you can swim. The best as soon as you leave for the seaside or a lake is to buy (or rent) a life jacket for the duration of the stay, because leisure boats do not necessarily have the size of your child. Too large, it is unnecessary, even dangerous, as the little one can slip through the neckline and armholes.

Likewise, avoid leaving your little one in their stroller on the deck. It would be hindered and could not float in the event of damage. Carry him in your arms if he’s an infant (with a vest, of course) and sit him on the floor afterwards. Given the reverberation of the sun on the surface of the water, the anti-UV panoply is essential: t-shirt, glasses, hat and cream galore. For a long crossing (to Corsica, for example), prefer a night trip. The child will be comfortably installed (as in his bed!). In this case, plan a small one-day travel bag, with change and clothes for the next day, so as not to have to unpack the big family suitcase!

On the plane, we take care of our ears

During the plane trip, let your little one, as much as possible, tied with his belt – even when the on-board personnel no longer impose it. Feeling content and well seated in his chair is reassuring for him. Temperature side, the air in the cabin can be freezing. Do not leave without at least one easily accessible vest. And depending on his age, a hat and socks for the first months, knowing that an infant cools quickly. Do not hesitate to ask the hostess for a throw.

Place it instead towards the window that aisle side. He would be disturbed by the comings and goings of the other passengers… when falling asleep, it would be a shame! But the most important thing in an airplane is to anticipate take-off and landing: you absolutely have to plan to make the child swallow (and you too if you are sensitive to the phenomenon!), to avoid earache due to the change in pressure in the device. Bottle of water, milk or breastfeeding for the youngest, cake, candy for the older ones. Everything is good, because this pain can be very sharp… and it is often the reason for most of the howls of the little ones when they are in the air!

Our tips for fighting motion sickness

באַוועגונג קראַנקייַט affects children from 2-3 years, and is most often felt in the car. But it can occur at any age and on any mode of transport. It comes from the contradiction of information sent to the brain between the inner ear, sight and the muscles that ensure balance.

  • By car : make frequent stops, change the air in the passenger compartment, encourage your child not to move his head too much.
  • דורך פלאַך  : choose seats in the middle, because the plane is more stable there.
  • On a boat : sickness assured, because it is the most mobile mode of transport, increased by the smell of gasoline, the heat and the noise of the engine. Install the child on the deck, in the middle seats, where the body roll is least sensitive.
  • By train : the child is less embarrassed because he can walk. Make him look at a fixed point on the horizon to prevent him from having the feeling that everything is moving.

Advice for all modes of transport  : fix your gaze on a specific point. Don’t go on an empty stomach. Don’t drink too much during the trip.

Treatment (after advice from the pediatrician): one hour before leaving, put a patch or an anti-nausea bracelet, call on homeopathy. And on the parents’ side, avoid stress, and don’t forget to reassure your child about the progress of the trip.
