Stewed white cabbage is a simple and satisfying food. Some housewives find such dishes boring, but they are mistaken, having no idea how many flavor nuances they are ready to accommodate.

White cabbage stewed in beer

Try stewing cabbage in a beer, and its taste will never seem monotonous to you again. You will need: – 1 medium cabbage; – 1 tablespoon unsalted butter; – 2 stalks of celery; – 2 cloves of garlic; – 500 ml beer; – 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard; – 1 tablespoon of brown cane sugar; – A drop of Worcestershire sauce; – salt and pepper.

Cut the celery into cubes, peel and chop the garlic, chop the cabbage by hand or grate it on a special grater, after cutting out the stump. In a large, deep saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the celery and garlic. Add cabbage, add beer and season with salt, sugar, pepper, mustard and sauce, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. When the cabbage is done, place it in a colander and squeeze out the excess liquid in the same saucepan where you cooked it. Put the cabbage on portioned plates, boil the juices until a thick sauce and pour over the dish with it.

Recipe for cabbage stewed with apples and caraway seeds

For this aromatic dish you will need: – 500 grams of cabbage without stalk; – 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil; – 1 head of onion; – ¾ teaspoon of caraway seeds; – 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar; – ½ teaspoon of salt; – 2 medium apples; – 1 teaspoon of honey; – 2 tablespoons of chopped walnuts.

Peel the onion and cut into thin half rings. Chop the cabbage. Cut the apples into slices, removing the core. In a deep skillet, heat the oil and sauté the onions and cumin, when the onions become transparent, add the cabbage, season with vinegar and salt. Stir and cover. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, remove the lid and add honey and apples. Increase heat, cook, stirring frequently for another 7-10 minutes. Serve sprinkled with chopped walnuts.

To stew kale in an oriental style, use: – 1 medium head of cabbage; – ¼ cups of rice vinegar; – ¼ cup of soy sauce; – 1 tablespoon of honey.

Cut the head of cabbage in half, remove the stalk, and chop the rest and place in a deep saucepan. Whisk the rice vinegar, soy sauce and honey, pour into the cabbage, stir and cover the saucepan. Simmer the cabbage over medium heat for 20 minutes, remove the lid and cook for another 5-7 minutes. Turn off heat and let stand for another 5 minutes before serving.
