• Polyps are not treated with drugs. They are removed by surgery.
• Minor surgery and cauterization. Most polyps can be removed at the same time as the colonoscopy, by cutting them off at the base. Then they are systematically sent to a laboratory to be examined and to know if they were precancerous or cancerous. The intervention is painless, since the wall of the intestine is insensitive to touch and is performed under general anesthesia.

This effect would be more pronounced on large polyps^1-5 . A recent synthesis⁶ confirmed this effect, but refrained from recommending making it a generalized preventive measure for those at risk.
