Decorating the interior of a house or apartment is a very exciting and probably the most enjoyable part of preparing for the New Year and Christmas. Especially if you decide to make accessories yourself. The main thing is that the decor evokes a feeling of comfort, joy and some mystery. A DIY Christmas wreath made of cones will become a traditional and at the same time very original decoration of your home.

Christmas wreath of cones

An ordinary pine cone can be great creative material. For example, you can use it to make a Christmas wreath. In this case, cones can be both spruce and pine, both whole and their parts (“scales”). To make your composition look richer and more interesting, it can be supplemented with several glass balls, ribbons, a luminous garland and other New Year’s accessories.

Master class: Christmas wreath of cones and spruce branches

פֿאַר אַרבעט איר דאַרפֿן:

  • spruce or pine twigs (you can replace them with thuja or cypress, the latter crumble less and do not prick, which will be important for you during work)
  • spruce and pine cones (you can use one type, or you can make a composition from different types of cones)
  • wire, strong, well-shaped for the base of the wreath, and a thin wire for fastening branches
  • liquid nails or a heat gun
  • additional decorations – balls, ribbons, garlands
  • spray cans of acrylic paint, or pearlescent nail polish, or spray for decorating flowers

In order for the wreath to be durable and serve you as an ornament for more than one year, you need to make a good base for it. To do this, twist the wire into a ring with the diameter of the future wreath. If you do not have the required quality wire, you can purchase ready-made wreath bases in specialized needlework stores.

There are metal clothes hangers in almost every home. Make a ring out of them, straightening them to the shape of a circle. This will be your base for a wreath, and even immediately complete with a crochet

First, prepare the branches: cut them all to the same length (about 10 cm). Then attach the first layer of spruce branches to the ring with a thin wire, evenly distributing it around the entire perimeter. It is important to attach the twigs clockwise, taking care that the base of the wreath does not deform during operation and remains round.

Then proceed to attach the second layer of branches. You need to fix it counterclockwise. If the branches are thick enough and you applied them tightly, then you will not need a third layer. If it seems to you that the wreath is not lush enough, then you will have to put another layer of branches again in the clockwise direction. When the base of the wreath is ready, start decorating it. You will need cones for decoration. Any will not work. It will be correct to select specimens of approximately the same size: not too large, but not too small.

Medium-sized buds are easy to plant on liquid nails as they are easy to plant. too large ones can fall off, and small ones will look bad in the overall design

Cones can be attached in their natural form, or they can be decorated by covering them with white silver or gold spray paint, glitter, etc. Even nail polish will do. After decorating the buds, try them on. To do this, place all the selected cones around the perimeter of the wreath, placing them in a free order so that you get an interesting composition. They should not cover the entire composition with a continuous carpet or accumulate in one place. Most likely, 5-6 cones arranged in a circle will be enough. There are no exact instructions here, so use your own taste or be inspired by other examples.

Now attach the buds to the wreath using liquid nails or a heat gun. But if you doubt the reliability of such a design, you can screw them to the wreath with wire.

To make the composition look complete and more elegant, add some beautiful beads, rowan branches or Christmas balls to the branches and cones. Finally, wrap the wreath with ribbon and tie a beautiful bow. Finally, attach a pendant to the wreath – a special hook or ribbon for hanging your man-made masterpiece on the wall.

Master class: a wreath of cones

You can make a very interesting Christmas wreath out of cones alone. It is done quite simply, it has a spectacular, snowy look.

פֿאַר אַרבעט איר דאַרפֿן:

  • spruce and pine cones
  • base for the wreath (a wreath of a vine or a circle of cardboard)
  • heat gun or liquid nails
  • paint (acrylic or enamel-aerosol or spray for flower decoration)
  • decorative elements (beads, ribbons, bows, etc.)

Take the base for the wreath and glue the cones to it with a heat gun or liquid nails. They should fit fairly tightly together so that the cardboard or other base material cannot be seen. You will end up with a very cute wreath. Even in this form, it will already be able to decorate the interior of your summer cottage. To make the wreath truly festive and Christmas, decorate it.

You can paint the tips of the buds with acrylic white paint for a snow-dusted effect. Or you can cover the entire wreath with gold paint and attach a large gold bow to it. The final decor will only depend on your imagination and preferences.
